Recently a few emails were sent to the tango list regarding scent sensitivities in the milongas and practicas. The following opinions were expressed...
. . .
Due to some people having scent sensitivities, if at all possible, could you please refrain from wearing perfume or cologne to the Wednesday Night Practica.
Wendy Hatanaka

No disrespect intended to anyone but everyone has sensitivities of some kind to something.
I love dancing with a partner who is wearing a top quality cologne. For me, a good scent enhances my experience of the dance. I'm not the only one who feels this way and in fact in one of the first tango classes I took (not in Vancouver), participants were advised to wear perfume/cologne.
Rather than trying to change the environment, perhaps it is important to change oneself. May I suggest taking a claritin or a natural allergy remedy to those who have sensitivities?
I really enjoy your practica and look forward to seeing you on the dance floor.
Best regards,
Jessica Silver

How about some people wearing some antiperspirant? And carry hankies to wipe off the sweat? And wash hands instead of using them to wipe noses? And what about barring persons who have colds not to attend?

What do you think?

yo creo que los que tienen olor a chivo hay que colgarlos del cuello
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of friends who have left classes or milongas because the odor of the dancing partners was extremely bad.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the post of Jessica. It is very selfish to encourage people not to use items that will diminish their bad odour.
By the way, it is not only for women the problem. Men also have to put with this (dirty hair, menstrual odour, etc)
Santiago,
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean I would wear a sign saying I have cologne? (Sorry, not so good spanish.)
